With the release of Intune update Week of July 23, 2017 there is only two new features.

Light and dark modes available for the Company Portal app for Windows 10

End users will be able to customize the color mode for the Company Portal app for Windows 10. The user is able to make the change in the Settings section of the Company Portal app. The change will appear after the user has restarted the app. For Windows 10 version 1607 and later, the app mode will default to the system setting. For Windows 10 version 1511 and earlier, the app mode will default to the light mode.

Enable end users to tag their device group in the Company Portal app for Windows 10

End users are now able to select which group their device belongs to by tagging it directly from within the Company Portal app for Windows 10.

Device category is not a new feature in Intune as it has been there for a long time for IOS and Android. Now we just got it for Windows 10 also.

What is device category :

Basically it is just a way for the IT department to ask a user a question that can identify there device on something that normally not can be queried. So the user choose a device category,  then we can make a dynamic AzureAD group, to deploy configuration profiles or applications the that group.

How to setup device category:

Go to the Intune Portal https://portal.azure.com

Click on Device enrollment

Click on Device categories

Click Add to create a new device category

Enter a category name

Then you can go to the User and groups – All groups in the AzureAD blade

Click New group

  1. Enter a Name for the AzureAD group
  2. Select Membership type : “Dynamic Device”
  3. Select Add device where : “deviceCategory”
  4. Enter the name of the Device category created earlier.

The device will get tagget with the Device category

Now for the user experience:

When a user is signing into the Company Portal for the first time it will look like this:

The user have to select a device category and click done.

Note: When you have a device category in your tenant, then every time a user is enrolling a device from the Company Portal the user is prompted for the device category. It is not possible to select this to be shown at only one OS like IOS, Android or Windows.
